Reflection questions:
Ephesians, like all Pauline letters, is communal in nature. Its rich, lofty theology moves into practical application within the life of the Church. Browse through the entire letter and identify as many instances as you can where Paul addresses our communal life. How does this emphasis on community shape your understanding of Ephesians 4:25-5:2?
What specific vices does Paul mention in Ephesians 4:25-30? How do they contrast with the virtues he promotes?
How can our words either build up or tear down others in the church?
Explain the “bitterness, rage, and anger” that Paul warns against, and how they affect our relationships?
How do kindness and compassion towards others reflect God’s character?
What role does forgiveness play in spiritual transformation and maintaining healthy relationships within the church?
How can we practice forgiveness in situations where we have been deeply hurt?
How does Christ’s example of love challenge our own behavior and attitudes?
How does Paul’s emphasis on community throughout Ephesians influence your understanding of individual and collective spiritual growth?
Make some time this week to be intentional about practicing transformative habits. Look for 1-1-1 opportunities: 1 thought-1 word-1 act. Spend time reflecting (1 thought) on Ephesians 4:24-5:2. Share your reflections (1 word) with at least one person. Do one thing (1 act) that demonstrates response or gratitude for God’s good news.
